Pinocchio seen through the eyes of Lorenzo Mattotti. The famous character in Collodi pen relives one of the greatest illustrators the world thanks to an extraordinary exhibition that brings together sketches and color plates, allowing the public to peek behind the scenes work by the artist on the figure of Pinocchio.

The exhibition, curated by Mary Perosino, entitled “The factory of Pinocchio” – which opens April 10 and continues until 23 May in the set of the Theatre Politeama Poggibonsi (SI) part of the festival “The words, Days “- tell the backstage of ten years, exhibiting for the first time drawings, sketches, color plates on Pinocchio. One subject on which the artist has returned repeatedly during his work, making dozens of sketches and tables of various sizes in color and black and white. The exhibition will display a wide range of unpublished works and sketches, and built between 1990 year of the first illustration of a children’s book and the 2008 date of publication of Collodi’s book by Einaudi in the prestigious series of Millennia .

They settle in the artist’s characteristic traits: the ability imaginative, embracing the use of color, short sketches in black and white characteristic of a sign which is built in continuous combat with the written word, so the ‘illustration becomes an occasion for excavation tool to delve into the text, writing a book almost parallel. Parallel just like Pinocchio who had once told Manganelli (Pinocchio. A parallel book, Einaudi 1977).

Lorenzo Mattotti artist by great sensitivity, he currently lives and works in Paris. He debuted in the late 70′s as a cartoonist in the early 80s and founded the group with other designers Valvoline. In 1984 he produced “Fire”, which received as an event in the world of comics, won major international awards. By “accident”, “Mr Spartacus,” “nefarious Doctor” “The man in the window” and many other books to “Stigmata” published in Italy by Einaudi, the work evolves Mattotti is settled very consistent but sign in eclectic who always chooses to prove himself in again. Today his books are translated all over the world. Published in newspapers and magazines like The New Yorker, Le Monde, Das Magazin, Süddeutsche Zeitung, Nouvel Observateur, Corriere della Sera and Repubblica. For fashion has interpreted the model most famous designers in the magazine Vanity. For children illustrates several books including “Pinocchio” and “Eugene” which won the Grand Prix ’93 in Bratislava, one of the highest awards in publishing for children. His numerous solo exhibitions including the retrospective at the Palazzo delle Esposizioni in Rome, at the museum in Haarlem FransHals Museums of Porta Romana. Among recent publications: “The sound of frost” “Jekyll & Hyde” by Einaudi and “Angkor – Carnet de Voyage” and “Manifests Mattotti” published by Nuages. Produce posters, book covers, advertising campaigns and it is her manifesto and posters for the 2000 Cannes Film Roman Summer. He recently collaborated on “Eros” by Wong Kar Way – Soderbergh and Antonioni treating segments of presentation of each episode.

The exhibition curated by Mary Perosino, will be open every afternoon except Mondays. Tuesday and Wednesday by appointment only.
