Anxiety MNAF Pictures presents in Florence – from April 17 to June 13, 2010
An important monograph entitled “Images of Anxiety” submit to MNAF from 17 April to 13 June 2010, the photographic work done by Italo Zannier prominent intellectual figure in the world of photography for his long service as a scholar and critic, backed up by a publicist who sees the author of more than five hundred essays and articles and over one hundred and thirty volumes and photobooks. From 1952 to 1976 was in fact among the most active and considered as photographers of postwar Italy, even with international awards.
The exhibition illustrates the work of recent years mainly as a memory of a historical period characterized by the Italian neo-realism of photography, which Zannier was a hero, founded the group Friulano and writing a “manifesto” of the same programmatic photographic Neorealism.
Witness more active and alert reading of the cultural models of its Friuli Zannier is committed to twenty years in a deep work of literature has gone, with surprising results in the pure aesthetic research conducted with human image and strong community support. The same feeling is also recognizable in the path alongside professional artists and architects as is evident by the large number of publications that make full on its research work.
A selection of images taken from over 47,000 shots in b / w and color that make up the complete archive of photography held by the author and now preserved in museum collections of Fratelli Alinari with his collection of approximately 5,000 original vintage prints They range from 800, with a fundamental core dedicated to Sommer, the presence of works by many of the most prestigious Italian and foreign masters in the history of the twentieth century and contemporary photography.
The course is divided into three specific sections, the years of Neorealism, the profession as a photographer of architecture and the acquisition of a sense of landscape, namely:
- The neo-realist debut in Friuli (1952-1960), with particular reference to architecture ignition (then disappeared with the earthquake of 1976) and sociological environment;
- Professional activities in the fields of architecture, particularly as a contributor of Bruno Zevi, and Industry, acting as photographer for several large companies such as Rex, Alfa Romeo, Venetian furniture, and, finally, some historical documentation Milan Triennale and Expo in Turin “Italy ’61″;
- The unpublished photographic reconnaissance work of the Viennese architect Adolf Loos, still intact in the Fifties;
- An anthology of images related to the major Italian designers and architects as the ’900 Giancarlo De Carlo, Marcello D’Olivo, Marco Zanuso, Gino Valle;
- An iconography of the great work illustrated by Zannier on Italy and by Italian Insolera and Enrico Ascione, between 1967 and 1976, which led to the creation of nine volumes published by ENI, on the coast and the mountains, still today more comprehensive encyclopedia of the Italian landscape, with the first notes and stringent environmental and spatial considerations.
Edited by Angelo Maggi, the exhibition is accompanied by a catalog published by Alinari Foundation with texts by Italo Insolera Angelo Maggi and Italo Zannier.
In contemporary art in Venice at the Fondazione Bevilacqua La Masa, home of St. Mark, is currently a major retrospective on Italian photography: The fury of the images from the archive of Italian photography in the collection of Italo Zannier Foundation Venice until July 18, 2010 . Curated by Denis Curti, tells the story of Italian photography from the beginnings to the contemporary trends, 260 pictures, mostly unknown to the public, accompanied by a series of books and photo albums. This exhibition is an example of the important value the library and photo archive of Italo Zannier that Venice Foundation has acquired in late 2007, to preserve, catalog and make accessible to students and scholars in the field.
