Seravezza Photography 2010 – James Nachtwey Inferno – eye witness – Lucca – from January 30 to 05 Apr. 2010
It will open on 30 January 2010, the seventh edition of “Photography Seravezza” with the “Inferno” – the Eye Witness “by James Nachtwey, one of the most important war photographer contemporaries. The event takes place in the heart of Versilia Storica, is organized by the Foundation Medici lands in the splendid setting of Palazzo Medici and renewed in conjunction with FIAF (Italian Federation of Photographic Associations) and the Photography Club “The Most High” with the sponsorship from ‘ Department of Culture and Tourism in Seravezza, the Province of Lucca, Tuscany Region and Manta Art Prints.
Curated by Libero Musetti, Seravezza Photography goes beyond the scope and the photographic exhibition of Nachtwey sets a stage in the journey that marks a partition with the previous exhibitions. This is because the work of James Nachtwey pain crazy life takes over, even on the extreme technical skill of the photographer, and his great boldness, for which only visiting the show can see what can be done by hand ‘s man.

James Nachtwey, a brief biography. James Nachtwey was born in Syracuse, New York, in 1948 and grew up in Massachusetts. He attended Dartmouth College from 1966 to 1970, where he studied Art History and Political Science. Is profoundly affected in his decision to become a photographer, the images of war in Vietnam and the movement for civil rights. Began working as a photojournalist in 1976 for a local newspaper of New Mexico. In 1980 he moved to New York where he began working as a freelance photographer. In 1981, Nachtwey has done his first assignment abroad in Ireland during the hunger strike of some IRA. Since then, Nachtwey has devoted himself to documenting wars and social conflicts. His work as a photojournalist has taken place in many countries such as El Salvador, Nicaragua, Guatemala, Lebanon, West Bank (West Bank) and Gaza, Israel, Indonesia, Thailand, India, Sri Lanka, Afghanistan, Philippines, South Korea, Somalia, Sudan, Rwanda, South Africa, Russia, Bosnia, Chechnya, Kosovo, Romania, Brazil and the United States. Nachtwey works for Time magazine since 1984, worked for the agency Black Star from 1980 to 1985 and was a member of Magnum Photos from 1986 to 2001. In 2001 he became a founding member of the VII.
