L’Arma per l’Arte (Weapon for the Arts) – Florence – 21 Nov. 2009 to 06 Apr. 2010
Forty years ago, in May of 1969, created the Commando Carabinieri Ministry of Education – Nucleo Tutela Patrimonio Artistico-transitive, with the establishment of the Ministry of Culture and Environment in 1975, the functional dependence of the latter.
Just steps away from Collegio Romano, in the charming Piazza Ignatius, took the offices of the Command, to stress, whether physical proximity, a relation of necessary and complete cooperation between the two institutions in the name of the target, enshrined in the Constitution , protection of cultural heritage of the nation.
Over these forty years have seen changes and reforms involving the administration and society as a whole, sharpening their weapons and tools of business and for those who are called to preserve the cultural heritage, both for those who in various how do they make havoc or violations.
This exhibition at the headquarters in Florence and two sisters in Rome and Naples are the “birthday” of the Commando Tutela Patrimonio Artistico, but even more promising opportunity for a budget of how much and how it’s done and what you can and you will still have do.
The exhibition in the Sala Bianca of Palazzo Pitti, is devoted to the art and sacred objects stolen and then painted in churches, monastery, or even in museums, but in all cases subject sacred or liturgical use. It tends to highlight how the places of worship have been for many reasons and are vulnerable to theft or damage and how over time the Carabinieri, who specialize in the field, have put their energies and skills to serve the Church and the its huge artistic heritage.
The works chosen are primarily united by their “quality”, very high, which testifies that the undisputed masterpieces, which is thought to protect against all risks, were stolen in time more or less resounding.
Well as in chronological order, the works were divided between the tables, paintings, sculptures, arts and crafts to show how the thieves have struck either genres. Another selection criterion might be defined “geographic” because, as the activity of the Carabinieri Tutela Patrimonio Culturale unfolds throughout the national territory, including the works on display should be used to represent all regions of our country.
Special attention will be the relationship that binds the audience at the religious community, to works of churches and places of worship, the relationship between museums and the area, the progress, also thanks to the Carabinieri Art, is have occurred for the securing of individual works and places that host them.
The exhibition is an opportunity also to present two major renovations: on one side of the altarpiece Sano di Pietro in the church of the Convent of San Bernardino in Sinalunga in chronological order is among the most recent recoveries Command NTPC, on the other the triptych Mariotto di Nardo in the church of Sant’Angelo a Legnaia which will then be put back in place of origin.
Since this is a show “institutional” aimed also to the spread of education to respect the law, and a range of knowledge on how material accomplishes protection of cultural heritage, is expected to attend a series of didactic apparatus with computer support intended for all audiences, but with special attention to schools. The idea essentially is to show that it is a pretext for a reflection-friendly approach on the main issues of protection that are unknown to the general public in all their facets.
