Saturday, December 5th, 2009 at 18:00 at the new location in the Galleria Nicola Ricci Artecontemporanea Carrara opens the personal Luigi Mainolfi, artist of the most important representatives of the contemporary scene, entitled “Shock”.
The exhibition will display works that testify to the recent course of art.
A bronze sculpture entitled “shock” that represents a characteristic form of creativity Mainolfi, a hybrid body, a number of factors, anthropomorphic, zoomorphic, phytomorphic and mythology.
A series of gouaches on paper that belong to the cycle “Bestiary of the Sun,” two large works in terracotta, in which one recognizes the sensory features of the land highlighted by cracks and grooves and so called “Land of the remoteness and Terra Mars. ”
The artistic journey of Mainolfi is part of the “new sculpture”: starting from a sort of re-founding it he retrieves the size of craft and manual labor, such as use of the land and the sculpture of classical materials such as bronze, marble and ceramics.
This show manages to capture and synthesize the thought of the artist who owns an independent spirit, Mediterranean and strongly tied to nature and the land of our country.
Luigi Mainolfi, born in Rotondi, Valley Caudina, Avellino in 1948, lives and works in Turin and Tuscany. Numerous solo exhibitions and international exhibitions in which he participated: the Biennale of Sao Paulo, Brazil (1981), the Venice Biennale (1982, 1986, 1990), the Paris Biennale and Documenta 7 Kassel (1982), the Biennial International Sculpture Carrara (2002 and 2008). In 1987 he won in Japan on the 5th Superior Prix Henry Moore GP In 2001 he was chosen as the representative of Italian art in Japan, thus arriving at the Museum of Contemporary Art in Sapporo. She recently exhibited at: (2007) Institut Italien de la Culture, Cologne Städtische Galerie, Ravensburg; (2008).
The range of his work is very wide: from performance and terracotta sculptures and installations of lights. His works are directed more toward a multimedia dimension but painting and sculpture are always present and are expanded with formulas and unexpected components. The sculptures often become components of a design and interact with video or with new surfaces and unexpected.
