Florence Biennale 2009 – Contemporary Art – Florence – from 05 al December 13, 2009
The seventh edition of the Florence Biennale will take place 5 to 13 December 2009 in the local exhibition of the historic Fortezza da Basso. In this edition of the participating artists and visitors have the opportunity to meet as part of the rich calendar of conferences and side events, the guests of honor 2009: Marina Abramovic and Shu Yong.
Marina Abramovic will present some of his works at the Fortezza da Basso and will star in a meeting with the public and artists, Marina Abramovic will be present with his video at the Fortezza da Basso in an exhibition organized by the Biennale. Shu Yong at the Fortezza da Basso will present some of his paintings in the series “Chinese Myths.”
The artists of the Biennale, from all over the world, different ethnic, linguistic and religious, are through art, the common language to transmit their cultural values. The Biennale since 2001 is an official partner of the United Nations program “Dialogue between Civilizations”. The instrument of action of this program is the document which sets out the means by which the dialogue should be promoted. Among these are mentioned meetings between experts, intellectuals and artists. The Biennale, is participating in the Dialogue among Civilizations “with its many Artists from all over the world come to Florence to discuss their work and expressed a witness of those feelings of brotherhood, peace and solidarity that are the foundation of civil coexistence between peoples.
In the 2007 Lorenzo il Magnifico prize was awarded to Gilbert & George, in the 2005 edition to Christo and Jeanne-Claude and Richard Anuszkiewicz, in 2003 to David Hockney.
