Zenith, a large bronze equestrian sculpture by Mimmo Paladino is installed, from 23 September to 8 January 2010, in the courtyard of the Men of the Institute.

The museum of the ancient Florentine institution, which for six centuries, without interruption, is dedicated to the care and protection, is thus enriched by the work of the contemporary artist who has accepted the comparison with the measures renaissance ‘s old hospital children and the Piazza della Santissima Annunziata and with the curiosity of the children who gather each day to the Innocents.

The event was founded by the will of the Lions Club Florence Firenzuola which together with the Banca del Chianti Fiorentino and the Istituto degli Innocenti promotes an awareness campaign in support of acceptance and social integration of all children, especially those who came into Italy from other countries, children of immigrants or adopted.
With this initiative, the Lions Club Florence Firenzuola also proposes to raise funds for ‘expansion of the Casa dei Bambini Innocenti where children are housed in difficult conditions.

L ‘Florentine exhibition of Mimmo Paladino is logically connected to the Porte d’ Europe, the gateway to ‘welcome, terracotta and iron monument in which the artist has created on the island of Lampedusa in 2008 to commemorate the victims of the landings of illegal immigrants on Italian shores .
And installation of the bronze horses topped by a star that stands between the columns of the Innocents Brunelleschi, in addition to binding to the space and monumental history of the place, is also a bridge to 2010, the year of the Mediterranean.
In 2010 it also celebrates the donation of Francis seicentenario Datini that gave birth to the Hospital of the Innocents and the hundredth anniversary of the Bank of Chianti.

During the fall and the holidays of New Year’s presence at the Foundling Paladino’s sculpture will be accompanied by numerous cultural events with concerts, performances and activities for children from the great bronze horse will know the game and get new ideas for symbolic protection.
