Futurism in Photography – Alinari National Museum of Photography – 17 September 2009 to November 15, 2009 – Florence
During the celebrations for the Centenary of Futurism, Fratelli Alinari. Foundation for the History of Photography, the CRAF. Archive and Research Center of Photography and the Province of Pordenone, organized the exhibition “Futurism in Photography”, curated by Giovanni Lista.
The exhibition will take place in first place in Florence at MNAF. Museo Nazionale Alinari della Fotografia Piazza Santa Maria Novella, from 17 September to 15 November 2009 and in second place in the exhibition in Pordenone Province, from December 5, 2009 until 7 February 2010.
It is the centenary exhibition that addresses the specific issue of the relationship made between the creative and the future understanding of photography as a comprehensive art, fall outside of the microsociology movement founded by Marinetti. In addition, the exhibition is the only scheduled event in particular to Florence to celebrate one of the most important cultural movements of our century.
Through 126 works accompanied by an original historical documents, the exhibition explores the first formal and unnatural insights of the late nineteenth century, then to analyze the revolution of Fotodinamismo Bragaglia brothers and their subsequent outcomes creative futurist theories have produced in Italian photography, opening to modernity internationally.
The kinds of expression are photography explored multiple portraits, the Fotodinamismo, the image of the mood, the photomontage, the Photo collages, the manipulation of imagery, the composition and the camouflage of objects, the search icon, the photo – performance, but also the sociological and ideological photography as a tool, and finally as a memory or ability to scan and fix officialdom and the internal life of the futurist movement, its social occasions or rituals that risks his complicity in the group.
The richness and variety of different-looking in photography, although it relates to the activities of other European avant-garde, represent a unique experience, applying the principles of art in an innovative futuristic antipassatismo, formal experimentation and esthetics, seeking a refund visual values psychological desire to capture the dynamism and vitality of the contemporary world.
Beyond Futurist formed around the figure of Marinetti, the show is so also the images of a “culture of the future” that took shape in a free and independent in terms of an experimental or avant-garde spirit, investing consciously photo as a medium par excellence of modernity both in the daily act as standing in the creative act.
The exhibition will then be represented, with images drawn from museum collections Fratelli Alinari and many important Italian collections both public and private, a photographic excursion through one of the most significant artistic movements of the twentieth century.
